A Note About Fire Department Response Times in Indian Creek

Our fire department is a volunteer organization. If you are interested in being a bigger part of our community, look into being one of our heroic volunteer firefighters.

Because our department is volunteer, each homeowner in Indian Creek should ensure they have the equipment they need to assist in protecting their own homes from fires. Two fire extinguishers and a garden hose that is certain to work (no ice clogs) are essential should a fire happen at your home.

Volunteer firefighters need 15 minutes to travel to the firehouse, another 15 minutes to suit up and get their equipment, and another 15 minutes to arrive at your home.

If you have no equipment or your hose is frozen and inoperable, you home could be a total loss before fire assistance arrives.

Excellent house numbers posted where they are clearly visible both day and night are key in making sure help can find you. Reflective house numbers are available from the Florissant Volunteer Fire Department. Contact them at https://florissantfire.com/address-signs or at

What is Fire Mitigation?

Fire mitigation is removing forest fire fuels from wooded areas. Imagine what the forest would look like after a fire, except make all the trees healthy: that is what your fire mitigated property should ideally look like: limbs, pine cones, pine straw and ladder fuel all gone. Dead and diseased trees removed. Healthy trees, well space apart.

The ladder fuel mentioned above refers to the dead lower limbs of pine trees. Forest fires can "climb" this fuel and work its way to the crown of the tree. It is ideal to removed nearly all the ladder fuel (up to 9 feet above ground level; standard is 6 feet) and forest floor debris.

All this work creates improved habitat for animals and stops tree diseases from spreading as well as insuring that a fire in our area will be easier to contain and our homes will be safer.

If you are a member of ICPOA and unable to do the work required to fire mitigate your home, contact ICPOA at icpoassociation@gmail.com. We may be able to get you some assistance at no cost.  Reach out to Don Moore at runningman2626@yahoo.com 719-839-0860 to request some assistance with your fire mitigation.
